Breda

We had booked a self contained flat at the Hotel Emauspoort. It was in an old and beautiful part of town just next to the cathedral. The flat was excellent, an old building but newly renovated and in good taste.

Apparently the building was painted by Vermeer, who came from Delft. Not painted as in painting and decorating, but included in one of his pictures.

In the morning we cooked scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast and then took the train to The Hague (Den Haag). We got off one station too soon and walked several kilometers through a rather seedy area until we found the center.

The Mauritzhuis is a small art gallery, but has a fine collection of Rembrandt's and Vemeeers, particularly Vermeer's. We didn't spend long in Den Haag, after visiting the museum we took the train back to Delft. We had dinner that night at Jill's, it was excellent with good food, good service and best of all a non-smoking dining room.
