L Simplex Designs
 

The L Simplex Design is a type of mixture design. The L Simplex design is used when there are constraints on the proportion of constituents, but those constraints still allow the experimental region to be represented as a triangle:

l simplex design

If the experimental region cannot be represented as a 'triangle' an extreme vertex design is used.

Note that a mixture design can have any number of constituents but it is convenient to illustrate the design as a mixture with three ingredients. This gives a triangle in which each corner represents one of the ingredients.
